There is a Michigan DREAMer that needs our help. He is currently being held in jail and was supposed to be deported on Monday. Thankfully we were able to buy some time, but no more than a week so we need everyone to take action now.
Ivan Nikolov came to the United States with his mother from Russia when he was only eleven years old. His mother married a U.S. citizen and they’ve been living in Michigan together as a family for the last ten years.
On the morning of May 5th, Ivan’s home was raided by ICE. Both he and his mother were arrested. Ivan’s mother was deported on Friday, August 6th and Ivan will be deported any day now—all because he missed a court date when he was 12 years old.
Take Action Now:
Six phone calls to stop Ivan’s deportation:
1. Call Senator Levin at 202-224-6221 & 313-226-6020
2. Call Senator Stabenow at 202-224-4822 & 517-203-1760
3. Call Rep. Sander Levin at 202-225-4961
Call-in Script: “I am calling to ask that you immediately contact DHS and ask them to use their discretion in not deporting Ivan (A#78-251-095). Please do this by both having the member call DHS directly and also by writing a letter on behalf of Ivan. Thank you.”
4. Call Janet Napolitano (secretary of homeland security) at 202-282-8495
5. Call John Morton (assistant secretary to ICE) at 202-732-3000
Call –in Script: “I am calling to ask that ICE use its discretion and not deport Ivan (A#78-251-095). Ivan has been living in the United States since he was 11; he is being punished for missing a court date when he was 12 years old. Ivan has a fiancée of three years and would qualify for the DREAM Act, a bill that would let him fix his status. Don’t deport Ivan. Thank you.”
6. Ask 5 friends to take the same action!
Done calling all of the numbers? Asked 5 friends to call? Great, wait a few hours and call again!
